The name "Fireweed" for our glass
business was originated by Cynthia's mother Doris Ellis after we
returned from Pilchuck in the summer of 1987. Both Cynthia and
I had our own art forms and Doris combined the word "fire" for my art of
glassblowing with "weed" for Cynthia's dried wild flower
arrangements. Also the flower fireweed is the first flower to bloom on
barren land after a fire. It blooms in August in Colorado high
country along the roadside.
